SilkAir Photo Contest - winner
SILKAIR REVEALS WINNER OF INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST.

A photo of a fishing village in Manado, Indonesia, has clinched the top spot in the SilkAir Destinations Photography Competition, which is the airline’s inaugural online photo competition. With its striking image and impressive use of lighting, the judges unanimously agreed that the photo captured the essence of a SilkAir destination.

The winning photo was taken by Mr. Piow Kan Boh, from Penang, Malaysia, and shows a local fisherman cleaning his fishing net at the end of a hard day’s work, with the prized catch of squids being hung out to dry against the backdrop of a magnificent sunset.

The contest, which ran from 24 August to 31 December 2009, received 570 entries from across the globe, including countries such as Canada, Australia, Myanmar, India and Indonesia, with close to 1,800 images uploaded.

For his winning shot, Mr. Piow will be awarded the grand prize of a Canon Powershot G11 digital camera; a pair of SilkAir Business Class tickets to Phuket and a 3D/2N stay at the Indigo Pearl Hotel Phuket. He will also receive a pair of Economy class tickets to Singapore on SilkAir, as well as a 2D/1N stay at the Regent Singapore, inclusive of airport transfers.

Mr. Piow will receive the prizes at a special award ceremony in Singapore on 12 March 2010.

Two other shots of Mount Bromo in Surabaya, Indonesia and a bull race in West Sumatra, Indonesia, won second and third place respectively. Mr Larry Louie from Canada had taken the early morning Mount Bromo shot, which features a desolate moonscape scene of the volcano in action against the rising sun. Mr. Gilang Pramono Seto from Indonesia had captured the picture of a local man navigating two bulls through a muddy field.

They win a pair of SilkAir Economy Class tickets to Penang and a 3D/2N accommodation at Parkroyal Penang; and a pair of SilkAir Economy Class tickets to Langkawi and 3D/2N accommodation at The Andaman, respectively.

The winning entries can be viewed at SilkAir Destinations Photography Competition and silkair.com.

The top three winning pictures as well as the 17 Honourable Mention images are now on display at Spruce Restaurant, located at 320 Tanglin Road Phoenix Park. Photo contest participants and all members of the public are welcome to view the exhibition, which will be running till 14 April 2010.
